"They used Chat-GPT to write a policy to ban... Chat-GPT" Edition
I watched recently an incredible talk from Ethan Mollick, a Wharton professor who published a book called Co-Intelligence. What I like about him is that speaks about AI with no absolutes, and encourages everyone to experiment.
In this talk he told the story of someone who shared with him in confidence, that they had used CHAT-GPT to write a policy to ban CHAT-GPT from being used... in their workplace.
I can think of this simply as "oh, the irony". But look what it signals.
On one hand, the power of AI doing things better and faster. On the other, the sheer contradiction of how fear is blocking us from accessing better ways of doing things.
Now, you will find a lot of people who are putting these things in place to "protect the company, to make sure we are safe". Like math teachers who decades ago were protesting against the use of calculators. And nowadays, we don't even question using a calculator.
But in an incredible PLOT TWIST, I'm not here to criticize these folks. I'm asking for all of us to NOT leave them behind.
Even if it's hard, we need to bring them into the AI bandwagon. Have them play with, talk about it, discuss pros and mitigate cons.
So if you find someone like that, or if like me, you were like that at some point.
Embrace them, show them the possibility that AI is bringing us.
You will learn from it.
They will appreciate it.
And we will all benefit from it.
