The "Which AI tool shall I start with?" Edition.

People ask me this question all the time. And no wonder, look at how many tools are available out there: this is the Gen AI Prism, curated by Brian Solis and Conor Grennan.

So I developed an intricate 7-step-18-criteria-decision-making-process to answer the question of where to start.

It's called "Just. Choose. One". Now hear me out.

It's easy to get overwhelmed with choice. It is proven that as humans there is a tipping point, in which having more choice gives us more anxiety than power.

It is the same with AI tools. So it's better to just choose one domain and max out that tool.

  • An image tool - try to create a logo for your company, an illustration for a concept, a banner for your kid's birthday.
  • CHAT-GPT - Upload a file, create a document, analyze a report, create an image.
  • A music tool - Create a jingle for your team's offsite (I decline any responsibility for experiments gone wrong in this domain).

Why do I recommend this?

  1. You won't be able to max it out even if you try. I haven't been able to at least. New features are added every week, so focusing on one tool allows you to discover these features by using them, instead of reading about them somewhere.
  2. All these tools are going to converge at some point and just be part of our everyday lives. Look at the example of LLAMA 3 launched by Meta last week. Soon it will be on Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp - and billions of people will have them at their fingertips.
  3. It moves us from Fear of Missing Out on the shiny new thing. To the Possibility of what's already here for us.

So choose one. Let me know how you get on.

And let others know how you get on.
