"That's what he said" Edition
There was this quote by Sam Altman - the CEO of Open AI going around a few weeks ago, first reported in the Artificial Intelligence podcast*
And wow - the drama, the horror, the tragedy. The reactions went from dismissive, to dismay and doom and gloom (yes, all starting with a "d". )
When I read extreme quotes like this, the important part is not if they become true. But the outlook change in the world they signal.
My take: he might be right.
But that doesn't mean marketers and agencies will disappear. It just means that we've been busy with the wrong type of work.
We used to be valued for the data we gathered, the answers we gave, the tools we mastered. That will matter less.
AI will be here to free us up from (most of) that. AND we will be valued by the questions we ask. The knowledge we seek. The creations we imagine.
Now, replace "Marketing work" in that quote above by "Finance work". Or "Commercial work". Or "Personal admin work". Doesn't it apply equally?
I believe it applies to each of you reading this newsletter. And probably to the other 7,999,997,000 that don't read it (yet).
It's an incredible time to build great products. To tell amazing stories. To connect businesses and people again. Regardless of your function, industry or seniority.
